Did You Lose Friends Thanks to MAGA?

For the record, I’m a No Party Affiliate voter. I don’t believe in party lines. I pick candidates based on their values…period.

It was a tough pill to swallow when I realized that I had friends and acquaintances – people that I’ve known for years…who are die hard Democrats and Republicans. They play follow the leader and disregard things that I hold dear like integrity, morals, kindness, and empathy. We cut ties with each other during the 2016 Presidential campaign. I lost a few more during the 2024 campaign.

My dad was a staunch Democrat from Pennsylvania, After Gore lost the Presidential election in 2000, the price of gas skyrocketed. Dad told me that it was my fault, because I lived in Florida and we lost the election for Gore. I also made the mistake of telling him that I voted for Bush. Yeah…it was not a fun phone call. He didn’t speak to me for months! That was when I learned what probably most people in America already knew…don’t discuss politics (or religion) with family during Thanksgiving dinner.

I didn’t always vote for Republicans. I voted for Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. But, in 2016, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Hillary. I believed Donald Trump’s promise to drain the swamp, and I voted for him.

I waited for his promises to come to fruition. Did Trump drain the swamp? No, he made his own swamp.

Healthcare companies suck billions out of Medicare and Medicaid by double billing and over inflating medical care provided. Pharmaeutical lobbies control Congress to this day. Defense contractors continue to rob the Department of Defense. Nothing changed.

I knew Trump was unhinged after reading his Twitter tweets in February, 2017. His behavior and thought processes became progressively worse.

Trump is incapable of appointing qualified people to head Federal agencies.

He values loyalty over competency. When things go wrong, Trump blames the very people he selected, calling them “stupid, nut jobs,” etc. Trump had a 92% turnover rate during his first administration, and a 45% turnover of his second hires.
